Build your marine career on strong diesel foundations

Manaaki Marine is recruiting for an established and growing Auckland marine engineering business. This is a practical field-service role working on premium marine diesel engines, generators and stabiliser systems across recreational and commercial vessels.

Marine experience is preferred, but it is not the only route into this position. We also want to hear from capable diesel technicians from heavy transport, earthmoving, mining, industrial engines or power generation who can diagnose faults, manage their own work and communicate professionally with customers.

The work you will take ownership of:

· Service, diagnose and repair diesel engines to manufacturer standards.

· Support engine installations, commissioning, rebuilds and major component work.

· Trace mechanical and electrical faults across fuel, cooling, exhaust, control and driveline systems.

· Manage assigned jobs, including progress updates and accurate time, parts and technical records.

· Protect customer vessels and worksites while delivering a professional service experience.

The capability we are looking for:

· Practical experience servicing, diagnosing and repairing diesel engines.

· Strong mechanical reasoning and a disciplined approach to fault finding.

· Confidence working independently and taking responsibility through to completion.

· Clear customer communication and accurate job documentation.

· A full New Zealand driver licence and unrestricted legal right to work in New Zealand.

Experience that will strengthen your application

Experience with marine engines, electronic diagnostics, generators, installations, commissioning, rebuilds, driveline systems, fabrication, welding or machining will be valuable. A relevant automotive, heavy diesel, mechanical or marine trade qualification is also well regarded.

What you will receive:

· $35 to $50 per hour, depending on demonstrated capability and experience.

· Time-and-a-half for hours worked beyond the standard 45-hour week.

· A company vehicle for work duties, plus a phone and uniform.

· Manufacturer product training and development in electronic engine diagnostics.

· Varied workshop and field work within a supportive, growing technical team.

Hours and working environment

The usual hours are Monday to Friday, 7.00am to 4.30pm. The role is based from Mount Wellington, Auckland and includes work in the company workshop, at marinas and aboard customer vessels. Overtime and occasional domestic or international travel may be required. Marine work can involve confined engine spaces, lifting, climbing and working around water, so practical fitness and strong safety awareness are important.
